This assignment will be about how sport effects the UK economically and what research companies do to find out this information and why they research this information. I think that the scale and economic importance of sport is how many people participate, how many people watch the sport, how many people invest in the sport and how many people buy products related to the sports. I think that the economic importance of sport is what it does and gives to the public. For example it gives people jobs, Hobey's, opportunity to stay fit and healthy, entertainment, brings in money to local area or country, attracts tourists and also has financial benefits on a country too.
The scale of sport is measured when a company or a person does a survey and research on how many people participate and go to sport events. They will measure this by totalling the annual attendances at sporting events for example they may add up all the attendances of the premier league teams together and then compare it to previous seasons to see weather sports spectating has increased or decreased. To collect information on how many people take part in sport, companies may go to gyms, sports centres, leisure centres and other sports centres to collect information on how many people take part in sport.
Because this kind of information is available to people in the UK many sports retail groups use this information to their advantage. For example sports retail shops might have seen an increase in cycling over the past year, so in this case they might decide to introduce more and more cycling equipment like mountain bikes, helmets, clothing, footwear and other cycling accessories. Because sports retail companies receive this kind of information from companies and receive a boost in their profits, this is why they help companies to track their financial impacts by passing on reports on what kind of sports products they made a profit on or lost out on.
This kind of information given by companies or individuals help and can improve the sport in the UK by a big percentage. For example sports retail can get a massive boost from this as they will know what kind of products they will need to stock; because of this more facilities will be available to everyone who wants to take part in sport. Also from this more jobs will be available as there is a huge demand of sports merchandise in the UK and this is why more sports retail shops will have to open across the UK. Also because of this more people will start to take interest in sport because of high quality sports merchandise. Information on Sports attendance is also a very positive thing for teams and for people who organise sporting events at venues. For example if the attendance at a international football match is at its maximum at the Wembley stadium, the FA may decide to add more seats to the Wembley stadium in the future. Also national health groups can use this type of information to make the UK a healthier place and offer help to people who are unhealthy. For example the NHS can provide obese people with gym memberships which may lead that person to joining the gym in the future. From this you can see that small things like the NHS introducing someone to a gym can have a big impact to the sports in the UK, for example the person will join a gym, at the gym he would have found it a good experience and will have bought a membership, from their he may have discovered an interest in a particular sport, then he might have introduced it to his children and they might be representing their nation in the future. This is why this type of information can lead to so many positive things which can happen to the Sports industry in the future.
